Il suo comportamento gelido e distaccato verrà stravolto dalla telefonata di Claire (Sylvia Hoeks), una donna misteriosa e sfuggente, che gli chiede di valutare le opere d’arte della villa che ha ereditato, e in cui vive reclusa. Con “La Migliore Offerta”, il regista premio Oscar Giuseppe Tornatore costruisce un film dalle atmosfere raffinate e dalla tensione crescente in cui intreccia generi diversi: dalla storia d’amore al giallo. Anche l’ambientazione contribuisce a creare un clima inquietante con quei luoghi oscuri e solitari (la villa di Claire, per esempio) che si fanno personaggi. Tuttavia “La Migliore Offerta” non è una detective story tradizionale, ma un film sul rincorrersi, nella vita (e nel cinema), di verità e finzione. Trionfatore ai David di Donatello nelle categorie per il miglior film, il miglior regista, e il miglior colonna sonora, “La Migliore Offerta” è un’opera carica di risonanze letterarie (si pensi ai racconti di Hoffmann) e, contemporaneamente, è una grande lezione di cinema.
Virgil Oldman (Geoffrey Rush) is a renowned art auctioneer, only interested in business. Its cold and detached attitude will change due to a phone call from Claire (Sylvia Hoeks), a mysterious and elusive woman. She asked him to evaluate the art works of the villa which she inherited, and where she lives away from others.With “The Best Offer”, the Oscar-winning director Giuseppe Tornatore creates a film with refined atmosphere in which he intertwines different genres, from love story to thriller. Even the setting provides a disturbing climate thanks to dark and lonely locations (the villa of Claire, for example). However “The Best Offer” is not a traditional detective story, but a film about the complex relation between truth and fiction, in life (and cinema).Winner at the David di Donatello Awards in the categories for Best Film, Best Director, and Best Soundtrack, “The Best Offer” is loaded with literary resonances (one can think of the Tales of Hoffmann) and, at the same time, it is a great example of what cinema means.
